Arrival

An uneventful and early arrival at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv; a drive up (elevation up) to Jerusalem; lunch, post-metal-detection, at a cafe near the apartment; a short drive out to a promenade overlooking the city; coffee, post-bag-search, on a hillside facing the Old City walls. And now some quality time with the Internet. The details of MEET are shaping up very well; both the students and their parents have already indicated a striking enthusiasm for the program. Meanwhile, the air is cool (relative to the temperature on the Tel Aviv tarmac, mind you), the sun is hot, and I’ll be burnt to a crisp in short order, provided these abysmal Israeli drivers don’t run us all over first. But I’m still at the stage of being relatively blown away by this city.

Finally, while I’m pleased to have been given no trouble whatsoever in airport security or customs, one is always disappointed to find that, having expected to face the fire-breathing dragon, there stands in his way only a paperboard dragon mock-up. Even accidentally wandering into the random search area and walking somewhat purposefully out of it failed to raise so much as an eyebrow. But it was a very official and self-important sort of un-dragonly operation. That must be worth something.

Jet lag is beginning to catch up with me, so that shall be the end of that.

  • Imagine my unfettered surprise when, upon googling myself, I came across this shrine to you. Hehehe… It’s good to hear that you arrived safely this past week. I hope your experience treats you well and that you learn much during your stay abroad.
