The Swiss Air safety video is computer generated animation. The female character in the movie is wearing high heels. In the section on using the emergency exit slides, however, an icon at the bottom of the screen indicates that heels are not to be worn (presumably they would puncture the slide). Sure enough, the CG animators have removed the woman’s shoes. But her 3D model they left unchanged, so at the bottom of the slide she stands on her toes, heels in the air. In a related observation, I had begun futzing around with the video system before it was fully “activated” on my second flight. When they brought the interactive program online, my screen reset, and it came up again with a familiar view: a background of alternating black and white pixels, and a small white “X.” Then the menu took over. So I guess even Richard can watch a movie on Swiss.

Hey Max it was good to see you while you were in Boston. That’s funny that they didn’t bother to animate the lady on her heels. The animated video as a whole seems kind of odd - I would think you could get a couple of actors for a lot cheaper (I guess maybe the water landing is easier to animate). That’s great that the plane video system is running X. Actually now that I think about it - I’m really glad to hear that windows isn’t running any part of a plane.
