Say cheese

Now in Leuven. Thrilling photographic evidence is up on flickr. Conference begins tomorrow.
The El Al safety video (I know, who really watches those) is a combination of computer-generated and hand-drawn (at least stylistically speaking) animation. You’ve got the father, son, and the son’s teddy bear. When the father puts the oxygen mask on his son, the son then takes the cap of his bottle and covers the bear’s nose. Very heartwarming.
The trouble with these safety videos is that the role-model quality of the male lead is always undermined because he tries to sneak off to the lavatory to smoke. Or maybe the idea is to generate sympathy for him from the smoking crowd, under the theory that since the smokers who haven’t had a fix since their transcontinental flight took off will be more troublesome when the plane goes crashing headlong into the sea, it would be nice if they listened to as much of the safety video as possible.
Enough deconstruction. Dinner this evening was lasagna with spinach and salmon. And cheese. The menu didn’t mention cheese (not in English and to my eye not in the French or German), but it came in spades, and I believe now coats the insides of most of my internal organs. Excellent.
And I had a moment of panic when my camera seemed to be broken, taking pictures where the entire frame was white. Then of course I actually paid attention and saw that it was set to a manual shutter speed of one second. Camera: 1, Max the photographer: 0.
